Are you smelling a sweet scent coming from your Subaru? Do you notice steam, or smoke coming from the Engine Compartment? Do you notice that your Subaru Coolant Jug is low but you don't notice any visible leaks on the ground or in the engine bay area? These are all signs that it may be time to replace the Radiator in your Subaru. 

The " Sweet Smell " that you are smelling is the Ethylene Glycerol in the Subaru Asian Blue Engine Coolant. As the the seams and solder joints age and become weak within the radiator due to expansion and contraction it will develop small fractures or fissures along the seams where the aluminum mates with the plastic radiator housing. Due to the radiator being extremely hot, the expansion of the metals and the fractures being so small, coolant will simply weep out of the radiator and instantly evaporate by contacting the hot aluminum. You may be asking yourself " If my Radiator is cracked then won't my Subaru Engine Coolant simply leak out when the Vehicle is not in use?" Well the answer to that is both yes and no. If the Fractures are small, (Usually in the beginning of Radiator Failure) then you may not notice anything at all because as the Radiator Cools, the fractured joints and seams in the Radiator will contract just enough to seal the Coolant Leak keeping the majority of the Engine Coolant in the system.

As most of you know Subaru Vehicles are extremely prone to Cylinder Head Gasket Failure so it is extremely important to make sure that your Subaru Coolant System is always operating at peak efficiency, If you notice any of these signs or symptoms it is time to bring it into your favorite Subaru repair shop to have it checked out!
